Our story

Rooted in Goan heritage. Open to everyone.

It started with a committee in 1998 and a portable cabin on Keston Road. The Centre opened in December 2000 as the first Goan community centre in the UK, and moved to its home on Apple Tree Road in 2018. Candy Fernandes, its founder, still leads it as trustee and CEO.

Over 25 years it has hosted toddler groups, youth and women's programmes, classes, religious services and cultural celebrations, and opened its doors to Mauritian, Congolese, East African and Caribbean groups too.

Frequently asked questions

How many guests can the hall hold?

Up to 60 seated guests. This limit is part of our hire terms and can't be exceeded.

What time can events run until?

Full day hire runs from 11am to 11pm, and that time includes setting up and clearing away. Extra time can be booked in advance.

Is there parking available?

There are 7 parking spaces next to the Centre, first come first served, plus street parking nearby. Please check local restrictions before you leave your car.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

Yes. A non refundable booking deposit secures your date. Private parties and some events also pay a £100 refundable security deposit, normally returned the next working day after the hall is checked.

Can I bring decorations?

Yes. Balloons, table decorations and other removable decorations are welcome. Nails, screws, staples, drawing pins, confetti, glitter and candles are not allowed.

Is catering included?

Not as standard. You can bring your own food, use your own caterer, or book our in house caterers from £15 per guest. Deep fat frying, BBQs and open flame cooking are not permitted inside.

What about noise levels?

We ask that music and noise be kept to reasonable levels, especially in the evenings, as we're in a residential area. Please ask guests to leave quietly.
